General Minimum Wage.
The National Minimum Wage Commission (CONASAMI) approved the increases to the minimum wage of Mexican workers and those corresponding to 61 professions, occupations and special jobs for 2025.
As of January 1st, 2025, the new general minimum wage will be $278.90 (two hundred seventy-eight pesos 80/100 Mexican Currency) per daily work shift applicable within the area denominated “Rest of the Country” or “General Minimum Wage Zone.”
The salary increase is based on the legal minimum wage for 2024, which includes an Independent Recovery Amount (MIR) of $12.85 (twelve pesos and 85/100 Mexican currency), along with an additional increase of 6.5%.
Northern Border Free Zone.
Workers in the “Free Northern Border Zone” (FNBZ) will receive a new minimum wage of $419.88 (four hundred nineteen pesos and 88/100 Mexican currency) for each daily work shift, effective January 1, 2025.
The salary increase is based on the legal minimum wage for the “Free Northern Border Zone” in 2024. It includes an Independent Recovery Amount (MIR) of $19.36 (nineteen pesos and 36/100 Mexican currency), along with an additional 6.5% increase for adjustment purposes.
These adjustments represent a 12% annual increase in both wage zones. The goal of this increase is to ensure that each worker can access 2.5 times the basic food basket by 2030.
Professional minimum wages.
Additionally, professional minimum wages will also see a 12% increase.
Impacts to be considered.
As a result of the increase in minimum wages, the social cost of labor relations will also rise, such as employer-employee contributions to the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute), INFONAVIT (National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute), and SAR (Retirement Savings System), as well as benefits such as savings fund, among others.
